APRIL CALENDAR: The Novak-King April Activities Calendar is now available online.
TREATS FOR THE TROOPS: Donate some treats to support our men and women in the armed forces. View our list of needed items and donate early and often.
EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR: Congratulations goes to Mr. John Offner for winning the Educator of the Year Award from the North Chicago Chamber of Commerce. Asked about the award, Mr. Offner responded, "I really consider it another school award, and I want to give credit to my staff for their hard work and dedication."
SPRING FUNDRAISER: Spring fundraising money is due the week of April 20, 2009.
EARLY REGISTRATION: It's not too late to sign-up for classes for the 2009/10 school year.
CHINATOWN, ROSALIND FRANKLIN & OTHER FIELD TRIPS: Bilingual classes recently visited Chinatown to observe Chinese customs, stores, and foods. On April 15th, 50 girls attended a science/health workshop and lunch at the Rosalind Medical Facility in North Chicago. Future field trips for all students include visits to Lake County Forest Preserves, the Field Museum, and College of Lake County.
Novak-King Updates for April 13, 2009
WELCOME BACK: Novak-King Sixth Grade Center welcomes back all students, staff, and families from a long and restful spring break.
SHORTENED WEEKS: Due to holidays, parent-teacher conferences, and pre-registration programs, there are some scheduling changes in the coming weeks:
- Friday, April 10, 2009 - NO SCHOOL for students or staff
- Monday, April 13, 2009 - NO SCHOOL for students or staff
- Thursday, April 16, 2009 - 2-hr EARLY DISMISSAL for students, Parent-Teacher Conferences and Early Registration run from 3:30 - 7:30 pm
- Friday, April 17, 2009 - NO SCHOOL for students, Parent-Teacher Conferences and Early Registration runs from 8:00 - 11:00 am.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: Scheduled for April 16 - 17 (see above schedule), parent-teacher conferences are a great time to coordinate your child's education with their classroom teacher. Teachers will be requesting that all parents setup a time to meet in advance. Contact the school for additional information.
NEW WEBSITE: We are working to update and rebuild the Novak-King Website. Please look for all changes to be complete by April 14, 2009.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY: Occasionally, the North Chicago schools are forced to close due to inclement weather. Please consult ABC 7 News, Univision TV, Univision Radio 105.1 FM, or the Emergency Closing Center for closure information.
