Coaching
Head Coach: Laurence Brown
Laurence Brown is the head coach for the North Chicago Girls Basketball program. His experience over the past five years, include Assistant Coach with the Boys’ Varsity Basketball Program. He is currently a paraprofessional at North Chicago Community High School for Special Education.
His coaching philosophy is titled ACTS which stands for Academics, Commitment, Teamwork, and Spirit. It is his belief that all four of these elements contribute to the success of any student/athlete. His vision for the North Chicago Lady Hawks Basketball program are to increase the number of participation and skills at the junior high level, that will carry over to the high school. In order for this to happen, we must start a Feeder Program at the fifth and six grade level through high school. His long term plan is to not only to attend a state tournament, but to win a state championship. It is also his desire is to see every young lady that wants to go to college or pursue higher education succeed. This year, Coach Brown had all six of his senior to go to college. Not having the best or the worst record for the Lady Hawks, he took them to the regional finals, which is the furthest any Lady Hawks teams has gone in the schools’ history in forty years.
This year coach Brown had two players to make all conference, Raven Snowden and Tatianna Webb. Coach Brown is not only a minister of basketball, but also a minister to people. We are happy to have him on board. He brought in three years of undefeated basketball record from the middle school boys program. His coaching career also includes Conference Championship at the freshman level.
Coach Brown is from this area, where he played high school basketball and a year of junior college before going on to the University of Wisconsin, Parkside. His team went to three Nationals, and played seven games. In Junior College, he made All State, Honorable Mention, All American, All Conference and All County. He tried out with Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers and International Camps. His coaching career spans over thirty years, including, basketball, track, wrestling and football through the Park District, private clubs, AAU, junior high and now high school. His experience speaks for itself. He has been successful at every level of coaching. It’s not going to happen overnight , but anything is possible with your help and support off this program we can but Lady Hawks program on the map for the high school.
