Business Education
Business Education elective courses may be considered either as vocational or as general background courses for college. From the vocational standpoint, a course or sequence of courses can lead to initial job competence, developing supplemental job skills, or providing a basic skill for part-time work. Business courses offer the college bound student an opportunity to explore vocational fields or to expand the basic high school educational program.

A one-year, two semester course designed to introduce students to the steps in the Accounting Cycle which include: Collecting and verifying source documents, analyzing each transaction, journaling each transaction, post the general and subsidiary ledgers; prepare a trial balance; prepare a work sheet; prepare financial statements; journalize and post the adjusting entries; journalize and post the closing entries; prepare a post-closing trial balance.

This practical semester course is essential for all students. Proper touch of the alpha, numerical, and symbol keys are taught while developing basic formatting skills and techniques. Students will develop keyboard speed and accuracy for formatting letters, announcements, tables, reports, and memorandums using Microsoft Word software. This course is a prerequisite for other word processing courses and business applications.

This course is designed to build on the fundamentals of word processing. Proof reading, word processing software features, and language skills are reinforced. Student will increase accuracy and speed with improved skills in producing business documents and forms.

Students will design and develop presentations for school and business use. Using Microsoft PowerPoint, students will use templates and layouts to create sophisticated presentations, insert objects, (documents, clip art) into presentation, animate slide shows, and build interactive presentations.

Students will learn how to create spreadsheets and workbooks that can store and give you access to large amounts of information using Microsoft Excel. Topics covered include entering and editing data, moving through a worksheet to view data, formatting data, using the move and copy features and increasing the power of your worksheet by including formulas.

This is an introduction to the financial responsibilities of the adult world within the American economy. Course content is similar to Economics, however, emphasis is placed on everyday personal economic involvement. Economic theory is explored at a basic level while stressing the practical applications within consumer economics.

This course examines the applications of mathematics in various consumer related activities, as well as the information necessary to make well informed consumer decisions.
