Social Studies may be defined as those areas that attempt to investigate man and his relationships with other men. Included are several academic disciplines: political science, sociology, geography, economics and history.

world geography
Prerequisite: None

Grades: 9
Length: 1 Year
This course is required of all freshmen. Students will learn the basics of geography including the five themes and how they relate to all the regions of the world. Areas of study include: the US and Canada, Latin America, Europe, Russia, the Republics, Africa, Asia, Oceana, and Antarctica.

u.s. history
Prerequisite: World History

Length: 1 Year
This course is required for all juniors. It is a thematic survey that looks at our history from the exploration of the Americas to the creation of a United States through present day. Each unit of study helps students understand the relevance of history by showing them how people and events of the past connect to the present. This course focuses on critical thinking skills and strategies for the PSAE.

This course is an intensive study into the development of American Historical tradition from early colonization to the present. At the end of the course of study, students are eligible to take the AP exam. Successful completion of the exam entitles a student to college credit in U.S. History.

Length: 1 Semester
This is a required semester course covering history of the constitution through the present. The areas to be explored are: the chronological and topical development of people, place, and events, which have had a cause and effect on the making and continuing of the Constitution of the United States. The cumulative result expected is for every student to pass the Constitution Test at the end of the semester.

A year long course in which students will intensively examine the American Government role in history and the impact of our System on the world and our future. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to take the American Government AP exam. Successful completion of the exam will entitle students to college credit in American Government.

This course will provide students with a survey of information to simplify the economic decision-making process dominating today’s international society. Students will be exposed to the importance of economic thinking. Discussions will include personal and social decisions, comparing the goals of the private and public sectors, and understanding the relationship between supply, demand, and price. Student should define the different types of firms and markets. The functions of money in relation to taxes, inflation, and unemployment will be explored. In this course, a stock market game is actively included.

This course is an elective semester course, which encompasses the study of human group behavior. The areas to be explored are: the chronological and topical development of people, places, and events which have had a cause and effect on who we are today and possibly who we may be tomorrow.
