Chronological Updates

State Boys Basketball Tournament - The Boys Basketball Team won on Friday and will continue their run on Tuesday 3/9 at 6:00 pm at Vernon Hills High School. They will be playing against St. Viator. Doors open at 5:05 pm and tickets are $5.00 at the door.

Assuming the Varsity team wins, the next game would be Friday 3/12 at 7:30pm at Vernon Hills High School either against Johnsburg or Gordon Tech.

Certificate Renewal - Teachers, don't wait to renew your teaching certificates this year. Many certificates are expiring on June 30 of this year. Use the Illinois Certificate Renewal website to add in your professional development experiences, statement of assurance, and pay for your new certificate. Questions? Bilingual Newsletters and Calendars - The most recent issues of the bilingual newsletters and calendars are available for March.

13th Annual Career and Job Fair - North Chicago High School welcomes all local and regional businesses, colleges, and other educational opportunities to participate in our junior and senior career fair to be held on March 24, 2010 at North Chicago High School. Learn more about the event. (3/3/10)

Parent Workshops - There are two upcoming parent workshops that may be of interest to you and your family:

Celebrating Outstanding Educators - Ms. Karen Fletcher, a teacher at Neal School, was chosen as 1 of 3 African Americans to be celebrated at the annual “Salute to African American Educators” luncheon. The purpose of the luncheon is to celebrate the achievements of outstanding educators and students from the North Shore Illinois area. Ms. Fletcher will be the recipient of the NAUW 2010 Outstanding Educator’s Award.

ISAT (Illinois State Assessment Test) - North Chicago students in grades 3-8 begin their ISAT testing on March 3 and most students will conclude their series of testing on March 9. For a look at all of the assessment tests administered in North Chicago, take a look at this handy assessment guide.

IDEA: Child Find - North Chicago School, under the IDEA mandate, is seeking out all students aged 3-5 who may be in need of special interventions as they prepare to enter school. Read more about the screening process.

"The Verb in Action" - The Boys and Girls Club of Lake County held a special event at Neal Math & Science Academy on January 6 to display the creative talents of North Chicago youth. Read the press release, or view the photos from the event. (1/18/09)

TRS Counseling Sessions - Schedule a TRS Counseling session before January 26, 2010, to speak with a counselor during the March 2, 2010 sessions.

Updates for November 2, 2009

TRS Meeting - The State of Illinois and the Regional Office of Education are holding a retirement meeting in the North Chicago High School Auditorium on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, starting at 4:30 pm. As part of the program, specialists will provide information on benefits, outline ways to optimize your service credit prior to retirement, and explain the retirement process in general.

Homepage Problems - On Monday, October 26, we experienced some problems with our homepage due to errors in the editing process. All of the errors were corrected, and the correct homepage is now in place.

Yeager Website - We are working to update the Yeager Website with new information, photos, and information that is valuable to the Yeager community.

Updated Budget - We have made changes to this year's Preliminary Budget.

Stimulus Funding - The North Chicago School District applied for additional educational funding under the ARRA Title I Stimulus Grant that passed congress earlier this year. For more information about federal programs, services, and monies covered through No Child Left Behind (NCLB), consult the NCLB Handbook.

Homework Tips: The US Department of Education is providing homework tips to families.

Lane Changes on Hold - For staff anticipating a horizontal lane advancement, please hold all documentations until further notice due to ongoing contract negotiations. (A. Smith)

Insurance Enrollment - (staff) We are in the open-enrollment period for medical and dental insurance. If you have not enrolled in the district insurance, please do so at this time. If you have changes and you have not completed a member profile form to make changes, please do so at this time.  The deadline to sign-up and to make changes will be September 25th at 12:00 noon. You can pick up the insurance form at the Human Resource Department. (A. Smith)

Sick Leave Bank - All union eligible members, (Teachers, Para-Professionals, Building Secretaries, etc.) September 25th is the last day to sign up for the sick leave bank. Please send all appropriate forms to the Human Resource Department. (A. Smith)

2009-2010 District Calendar Online - You can now view the full district calendar online. There are additional links to a print version of the calendar.

Bilingual Newsletters - New Calendario and Boletin Informativo are available from the Bilingual Department homepage. Materials are available for parents of PreK - 12 grade.

Updated Athletic Schedules - Many of the Athletic Schedules have been updated including Boys Soccer, Girls Bowling, and Boys Basketball.

High School Activities - The August and September Activity Calendars were added this week. Additionally, changes were made to the names of the activity sponsors.

Forrestal School Staff and News - Forrestal School has updated its staff list, added some blog links, and added Ms. Brooks' Welcome letter to the community.

Novak-King Events - Novak-King has released its fall activity calendars. Additionally, the Novak-King Open House will be held on September 17, 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

403B Providers - The updated list of 403b providers has been added to the HR website to help you better plan for retirement.

Updates for 8/24/09

Welcome back students!

3-Hour Day: Parents, remember the first day of school is a 3-hour day. For 6-12 grade students, 8/24/09 runs from 8 am - 11 am. For K-5 students, the school day runs from 8:30 am - 11:30 am.

Normal School hours are 8:30 am - 2:45 pm for K-5 students and 8:00 am - 2:15 pm for 6th - 12th grade students.
