Board of Education
North Chicago Community Unit School District
The Board of Education sets policies regarding students, staff, educational programs, physical plants, equipment, and community programs. Additionally, the Board of Education defines district-level strategic plans, approves annual budgets, negotiates with employee groups and unions, and selects and evaluates the Superintendent of Schools.
Board of Education members are elected through popular vote. Military representatives participate in all board functions, but cannot exercise voting privileges during meetings. Advance notice of regular and special board meetings is sent to all local news media, and minutes are on file at the Administration Service Center and at the North Chicago Public Library.
The public is welcome to attend Board meetings. All are welcomed to sign up before the meeting for an opportunity to address the board. All speaking time slots limited to 5 minutes to allow all citizen their rights to voice their opinions.
